REGIONE ABRUZZO – DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY

Abruzzo Region is a public authority whose legislative power is settled by the Italian Constitution. The Department  of Energy Policy, Air Quality, National Environmental Information System  is in charge, between the others, of the development of strategies and methods for energy policy, plans and programs for the promotion of renewable  and energy saving as well as strategies and plans on climate change issues. It is in charge of the realization, updating and implementation of the Regional Energy Plan and the Regional Plan for Air Quality and is currently working at the regional strategy of adaptation to climate change (approved by Decree of the Regional Executive no. 308 of 29 April 2015) in coordination with the main national and EU working groups of the field (Italian State-Region Conference, Mayors Adapt, FEDARENE – European Federation of Agencies and Regions for Energy and the Environment).

It is the coordinator of the Covenant of Mayors Initiative (CoM) which involves all municipalities (305) and provinces (4) of the region and is currently coordinating with them to update the Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAPs) submitted within the initiative into Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAPs) having officially endorsed the new CoM for Climate and Energy in 2015.
