A Regional Climate Plan was launched in 2008 by Saint-Etienne Métropole. In order to fulfil its commitment to this comprehensive approach, the local authority opted to use Energy Performance Contracting (EPC) to upgrade the energy systems of the Museum of Modern Art in St Etienne with the aim of reducing energy consumption and related costs. The interventions carried out through the implementation of an energy performance contract were related mainly to the installation of an automated HVAC system and integration of a new building management system (BMS). Two new gas boilers and a chiller were installed to cover the heating and cooling requirements of the building. A maintenance agreement was also signed to ensure that the expected cost savings are achieved.
